Typically, 20 team members paddle the boat, with a drummer seated on the bow drumming a stroke rate for the paddlers. A steersperson stands at the stern and controls the direction of the boat.<\/p><p>Dragon boats are paddled for recreation and raced competitively around the world and right here in Hartford, Connecticut. Our annual <a href=\"https:\/\/riverfront.org\/events\/riverfront-asian-festival\/\">Riverfront Dragon Boat and Asian Festival<\/a>, held in August, draws more than 70 teams from the northeast and beyond.<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Give dragon boating a try! Whether you\u2019re gearing up for racing on the water or simply striving to stay in condition during the winter months, this opportunity provides an excellent avenue to achieve your fitness goals. While our training includes the use of the ergometer (Concept 2 rowing machine), our sessions also include components like stretching, core routines, and customized strength training to cater to the requirements of dragon boat paddling. This session is the beginning of the process to become a qualified steersperson at Riverfront Recapture, if you choose to pursue it further. Continuing steering opportunities will be offered during the times teams are practicing. We welcome experienced paddlers aged 18 or older. We annually race in Hartford\u2019s Dragon Boat and Asian Festival, competing in the Sport Team Division. To be a member of our team, racing isn\u2019t required, but we\u2019re confident you\u2019ll want to! In addition to social opportunities, members of DragonFire have the option to race in other regional races, participate at paddling camps, enter other dragon boat related competitions and trainings in both the USA and Canada.<\/p><p>Are you racing on one of the Community Teams in the <a href=\"https:\/\/riverfront.org\/events\/riverfront-asian-festival\/\">Riverfront Dragon Boat &amp; Asian Festival<\/a>? No problem! You can paddle with DragonFire for most of the season and still race with your own team. All equipment is provided. Join a team of experienced, competitive, women dragon boat paddlers as we prepare to race in the Club Division of our Dragon Boat and Asian Festival here in Hartford on August 16. You must be an experienced paddler and be paddling this season with another group or Riverfront paddle session.
